NWS Ice accumulation predictions

WATAUGA — Watauga County is under a winter storm warning until 1 a.m. Feb. 19 issued by the National Weather Service. 

Total snow accumulations of one to four inches and ice accumulations of 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch are expected. 

Due to inclement weather and road conditions, some operations in Watauga County have been delayed or have closed for Feb. 18.


AppalCART will run a limited route for Silver meaning no service to Caldwell Community College and White Oak Rd until conditions improve on Feb. 18. 


Due to inclement weather, our offices will be operating on delays at this time. The Watauga will be on a two-hour delay, opening at 10:00 a.m. The Ashe office is on a one-hour delay, opening at 9:00 a.m. If this changes, we will provide an update.

Watauga County Offices

Due to inclement weather and road conditions, Watauga County Offices will operate on a two-hour delay on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021. Weather and road conditions will continue to be monitored and adjustments will be made, if necessary.

Watauga County Library

The Watauga County library will be closed today due to icy conditions.

Watauga County Schools

Due to the forecast for significant winter weather overnight and throughout the day tomorrow, including the potential for significant icing and loss of power, Watauga County Schools will be closed for students on Thursday, Feb. 18.

Feb. 18 will be an optional teacher workday and there will be no remote instruction for students. Staff may report to work on a two hour delay if needed for safety and teachers may work remotely if needed for safety. 

The holiday/snow day program at Hardin Park will also be closed on Feb. 18.
