Two local churches are observing the Easter season by hosting reenactments of The Last Supper on Thursday, April 13.
Boone United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church of Boone will present a live reenactment of Leonardo Da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper” followed by a communion service.
This is Boone United Methodist Church’s 25th presentation of “The Last Supper.” Over the years, 71 men have participated in the reenactment. The live dramatization starts at 7 p.m. and is located at 471 New Market Blvd.
“This is a very powerful service, whether you have seen it once or all 25 times,” church member Diana Haas said.
First Presbyterian Church will also be hosting a living Last Supper on Maundy Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m. First Presbyterian Church is located at 131 Big Valley St. in Boone.
Both events are open to the community.
Maundy Thursday is the first of three days of remembrance leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus. Maundy Thursday commemorates The Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles, followed by Good Friday.
