BOONE — The App State women’s soccer team suffered a 7-1 setback to visiting Pitt on Sept. 13 at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
App State falls to 0-2 while Pitt moves to 2-0 on the season. Pitt beat App State on Sept. 10 in the season opener for both teams at Ted Mackorell.
Lindsey Poff scored Appalachian State’s lone goal Sept. 13 when she scored her first-career goal in the second half of the game. She rebounded a Tess Cairney penalty kick in the 76th minute. Cairney picked up her first assist of the season.
The Panthers struck first in the first 13 minutes of the game before scoring three more times to go into halftime with a 4-0 lead. Pitt tacked on three goals in the second period. Anna Rico led the visitors with a pair of goals while five other Panthers found the net.
Five of the six shots that were on goal came in the second half but only capitalized on the Poff score. Six Mountaineers had one shot on goal. Mary Perkins and Izzi Wood each attempted two shots to lead the team in shots.
Kerry Eagleston played the first half between in goal before Jazz Salters played her first collegiate contest in the second half at goalkeeper.
App State returns to action at 5 p.m. on Sept. 17 against Georgia State in the Sun Belt opener.
