BOONE — The Equip 9-under baseball team took a 5-1 victory over the Lenoir Ravens June 23 at Watauga High School in the final round of the Will Dicus Memorial Baseball Tournament.
The win gave Equip the 9-under division championship. On June 22, Equip also beat the High Country Havoc 17-1 and beat the Yadkin All-Stars 10-0, giving Equip a 32-2 combined scoring advantage in its three games.
Equip put Lenoir away early by scoring four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Brayson Gough started the rally with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Stacy Eggers.
Avery Westphal singled one at-bat before Eggers batted. After Eggers’ sacrifice fly and a walk given to Justice Hendley, Brodie Lippard drove in Westphal with a single to give Equip a 2-0 lead.
Coy Greer drove in Hendley with a single and Chose Watts drove in Lippard with a single that gave Equip a 4-0 lead.
Lenoir scored a single run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Peyton Estes. Equip answered when Eggers opened the bottom of the fourth inning with a single. Two wild pitches put him at third base and he eventually scored on a wild pitch to give Equip a 5-1 lead.
Equip finished with five hits in the five inning game.
In other 9-under games, the High Country Havoc beat Lenoir 7-6 on June 22 and lost to Yadkin 11-0 on June 23. Lenoir also beat Yadkin 7-2.
