BOONE — The Diamond Elite 15-under baseball team took a quick lead on the Watauga All-Stars and claimed a 12-2 victory in the championship round at the Will Dicus Baseball Memorial Tournament on June 16.
The Diamond Elite claimed a 5-1 lead after scoring three runs in the first inning and two in the second. Watauga scored a run in the second inning when Ethan Hartley led off with a single and scored.
Watauga also scored in the top of the fifth inning when Carson Warren singled and scored on a wild pitch. Watauga left four runners on base, three in scoring position.
Watauga also lost two runners in the second inning after the Diamond Elite made plays to get them out.
Hartley, Calvin Greene, Tyler Ward and Warren had hits for Watauga.
Ryland Henard had two hits, including a double, for Diamond Elite, while his teammate Evan Mutter had a double. The Diamond Elite won two games June 15, beating Equip 11-0 and the Elite Baseball team of Wilkesboro 11-3.
The Watauga All-Stars beat Equip 7-1 and lost to the Elite Baseball team 10-5 on June 15.
Elite Baseball 10, Equip 4
BOONE — Elite Baseball took a 4-1 lead and built it to a 10-4 victory over Equip in the consolation round of the Will Dicus Baseball Memorial Tournament on June 16.
Cooper Riddle scored three of Equip’s four runs. He walked and scored an unearned run on a ball hit by Cooper Critcher that gave Equip a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Riddle was hit by a pitch in the top off the fourth inning and scored on a Canyon Pennington double.
Pennington scored on a single hit by Hayden Jenkins, which closed Elite’s lead to 5-3. Elite scored the next five runs to take a 10-3 lead, but Riddle led the top of the seventh with a single.
Riddle scored to close Elite’s lead to 10-4.
Equip, comprised mostly of players who are 13-years old, finished with four hits. Equip also drew four walks and had two batters hit by pitches.
Elite collected 12 hits.
