SANFORD — DeAndre Dingle-Prince, a defensive lineman from Lee County High School, announced on his Twitter account June 20 that he has verbally committed to play football at Appalachian State.

“I would like to announce that I will be committing to the Appalachian State University,” Dingle-Prince tweeted.

Dingle-Prince (6-foot-2, 253-pounds), is the fifth player overall to commit to the Mountaineers in the recruiting class of 2020 according to the website 247sports.com. He finished the 2018 season with 67 tackles and recorded 12 sacks for 35 yards in losses for Lee County. He also collected eight quarterback hurries, 43 solo tackles and recovered two fumbles.

Lee County finished 11-1 overall and won the 2018 Tri-County Conference football championship with a 5-0 record. Dingle-Prince led a defense that allowed just 39 points in five conference games and just 153 points during Lee County’s 12-game schedule. Lee County was eliminated from the 3-AA state playoffs by Greensboro Dudley, who claimed a 29-26 first-round win.
