ASHEVILLE — Appalachian State added a quarterback to its recruit list when Navy Shuler verbally committed to play at Appalachian State.
Shuler, who played at Christ School, made his announcement July 4, according to the Asheville Citizen Times. Shuler is the son of former Tennessee standout quarterback and Washington Redskins former top draft pick Heath Shuler, who is also a former congressman.
Navy Shuler, who stands 6-0 and weighs 195 pounds, threw for 4,112 yards and 44 touchdowns, while completing 70.2 percent of his passes in 2018, his junior season. Shuler led Christ School, located in Arden, to a 10-2 record in 2008 and a berth in the second round of the NCISAA Division I football playoffs before a loss to Charlotte Christian.
Shuler is the seventh commitment App State has secured for the recruiting class of 2020, according to 24/7sports.com. Shuler is ranked a three-star player by the website.
