BOONE — Appalachian State University golf director Heather Brown has signed a contract extension to coach the women’s golf program through the 2022 season, the school’s Director of Athletics Doug Gillin announced Monday, July 15.

The extension for Brown, an ASU alum, was approved by ASU Chancellor Sheri Everts and the university’s board of trustees.

“I am especially grateful to Chancellor Everts, Doug Gillin and the board of trustees for giving me the opportunity to continue to mentor App State student-athletes at the place I love,” said Brown, who was a team captain as an App State player. “I will continue to give my all, developing quality players to excel on and off the course.”

Brown completed her 11th season as the head women’s golf coach in 2018-19 and helped the Mountaineers win multiple tournaments in a spring season for the first time since 2014-15. They took first among 11 teams at the French Broad Collegiate Invitational two weeks after securing first in a six-team field at the Bucknell Spring Break Intercollegiate.

Academically, the women’s golf program received a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA for the sixth straight year by posting a multiyear Academic Progress Rate score in the top 10 percent of the sport. Brown’s program had both a perfect single-year and multiyear APR score of 1,000 during the 2017-18 cycle that was released earlier this year.

Three team members were also named All-American Scholars by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association for the 2018-19 season.

“We are pleased that Heather will continue to lead our women’s golf program,” ASU Senior Associate Athletics Director Troy Heustess said. “She has a passion for Appalachian State and helping her student-athletes succeed academically, competitively and in the community.”
