If you’ve ever doubted the old axiom, “the power of the press,” rest assured that it has been proven true yet again during First Horizon Foundation’s “25 Years of Giving” video contest.

The Watauga Democrat’s and Mountain Times Publications’ online and print coverage drove thousands of arts enthusiasts to the Appalachian Theatre website where they cast their votes for our video, generating more popular votes than any of the 100 entries from North Carolina. Our cause went viral, aided by such local organizations as the Boone Chamber of Commerce, Mast General Store, and others to spread the word and get out the vote.

This enabled the Appalachian Theatre of the High Country to win out over organizations from the largest metropolitan areas in our state. To paraphrase Shakespeare, “though our region be but little, she is fierce!”

Thank you for your efforts on our behalf and for your continued support of the Appalachian Theatre.

Keith Martin, vice chairman, board of trustees
