There are many ways to connect with local law enforcement, and while some of those ways are not advisable, one excellent means of meeting an officer or two is through the Boone Police Dapartment-initiative Coffee with a Cop series.

Once a month, beginning Jan. 22, the event will partner officers, a local coffee vendor and the community in an instructional format that will also allow for questions and answers.

As a way to conduct a “get to know you,” Boone Police earns high marks for accessibility with these events. And, centering each meeting on a different and important topic — examples include sessions on body cameras, internet crime and personal safety — also makes them a valuable use of our time.

We are encouraged by this outreach from our community protectors, and we encourage members of the community to join them. Meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held in Boone Council Chambers on Blowing Rock Road.
