Stella Mae Gentry Sweeney

Stella Mae Gentry Sweeney of Fleetwood, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at the age of 88.

Stella was born on July 24, 1929, to the late Reverend George Paton Gentry and the late Emma Jean Poe Gentry. Stella retired two months shy of 41 years of service in 2006 from TT Electronics, formerly known as IRC, in Boone, N.C.

She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Fleetwood. Over the years, she served as Sunday School Superintendent, Secretary, Treasurer of Womans Home Mission and Church Delegate.

Stella Sweeney is survived by a son, Michael Sweeney (Kimberly) of Mount Joy, PA; a daughter Sherri, of Greensboro, N.C.; a granddaughter, Tanisha and her three children Josiah, Jayden, and Zoey; a sister in law, Lorraine Gentry, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and a host of nephews and nieces also survive. She was predeceased by all her brothers and sisters beginning with the oldest Ray, Beulah, Ervin, Kenzil (Bus), General Foch, George Allen, Bill, and her younger brother, Gwyn.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 1 p.m., in the afternoon at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel and Gardens. Family and friends will be gathering from 11 am to 1 pm two hours prior to the service. Interment will be held at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery following the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Relay for Life.
