Florence Peterson Scott, better known as Willie, 99 of Jefferson, N.C., passed away on Sunday morning at her residence. 

Mrs. Scott was born on Sunday, January 18, 1920 in Salina, Utah to the late Delbert Brewster and Fern Gates Peterson.

In addition to her parents, Florence was also preceded in death by her husband, Hersel Weaver Scott; and several siblings, Elden Eudell, Lynford, Boyd Eageon, Reba May and Melvin McKee Peterson. 

Willie and her late husband loved to travel throughout the United States and abroad.  She enjoyed walking through the neighborhood and working in her yard, she had a green thumb and could grow any type of flower.  Mrs. Scott was also a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Scott is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Scott of Georgia and Peggy Smith of New Jersey; along with one sister, Glora Janeck of Oregon.  Willie also leaves behind a special friend, neighbor and caregiver, Teresa Eller. Three grandchildren, Jeff Smith, Jennifer Joyce and David Smith; five great-grandchildren, Jake, Jessica, Charlotte, Erin and Emelia as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon on June 12, 2019 by the Rev. David Lawrence.  Burial will followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends from 2 p.m.-3 p.m., one hour prior to the service at Ashelawn.
