Blowing Rock Road wreck

A Chevrolet Cruze experiences heavy rear end damage after a collision on June 13.

BOONE — Three people were transported to Watauga Medical Center for minor injuries after an 18-wheeler rear ended a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze on June 13.

Boone Police Sgt. Geoff Hayes said the call came in at 12:10 p.m. on Blowing Rock Road in front of the police department. The 18-wheeler — driven by Lamar Michael Smith, 45, of Rockwell — was traveling behind the Chevrolet car and did not stop in time, Hayes said. Smith was cited for failure to reduce speed.

The driver of the Chevrolet car — Jessica Ayleen Saumeth, 30, of Huntersville — and her two passengers were transported by Watauga Medics for minor neck and knee injuries, according to Hayes. Boone Fire and Boone Police were also on scene.
