Nightshade Road fire

A fire takes over a home in the 500 block of Nightshade Road on Nov. 4.

TRIPLETT — The cause of a Nov. 4 fire is still unknown after flames engulfed a home that wasn’t yet completed in the Blue Ridge Mountain Club community.

Watauga Fire Marshal Taylor Marsh said the call came in at 4 p.m. Sunday for a house fire in the 500 block of Nightshade Road from a neighbor. The $800,000 home only had about a month to a month and a half until its completion.

No one was living in the home at the time, and the home did not yet have an address. Marsh said the house was declared a total loss.

Responding crews to the scene were Stewart Simmons Fire, Blowing Rock Fire, Ferguson, the Watauga County Fire Marshal’s Office, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office and Watauga Rescue.

Marsh said the cause of the fire is still under investigation with the help of N.C. Office of the State Marshal Fire Investigation Division, U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and N.C. State Bureau of Investigation.
