Blue Ridge Hearing Center, LLC, Resound and the Mountain Times are partnering together for the 2018 Hear for the Holidays contest — an essay contest that seeks individuals in Watauga, Ashe and Avery counties who would most benefit from a free pair of hearing aids and services.

The contest was started by Dr. Mary Markovich of Blue Ridge Hearing Center in 2010 as a way to give back to the community during the holiday season.

To enter the contest, participants must submit an essay of 500 words or less stating who you would like to nominate for consideration, and how that person would benefit from Resound hearing aids and follow-up services from the doctors at Blue Ridge Hearing Center. Members of the community are encouraged to nominate their friends and family members.

Entries must be submitted no later than Wednesday, Nov. 28. The Top Three essays, ranked by criteria of financial need, degree of hearing impairment and quality of the essay, will be published online and at

Mountain Times readers will then vote on who they think will benefit most from the hearing aids. Votes will be accepted until Wednesday, December 12.
