BLOWING ROCK — The Watauga Community Band will perform its annual festive Holiday Concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Blowing Rock School Auditorium.

The band will play traditional holiday music including the “Hallelujah Chorus” from “The Messiah,” “Themes from the Nutcracker Suite,” “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” and “Sleigh Ride,” as well as contemporary versions of old favorites such as “The Bells of Christmas,” and “A Christmas Festival.”

The Watauga Community Band has been performing in the High Country for 32 years. The band is composed of 60 members of all ages including high school and college students, professional musicians and retirees who have been playing music all of their lives. Former conductor of the Watauga High School Band, Billy Ralph Winkler is the Watauga Community Band’s principal conductor.

In addition to the Annual Holiday Concert, the band plays a spring concert and concerts on special occasions such as Memorial Day and Veterans Day, at local campgrounds and monthly performances at the gazebo in Blowing Rock.
