Alien Conference

All things extraterrestrial will be celebrated and discussed in Spruce Pine on June 14 and 15 at the Spruce Pine Alien Conference and Expo.

SPRUCE PINE — All things extraterrestrial takes center stage this Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15, in Spruce Pine as the community hosts the inaugural Spruce Pine Alien Conference and Expo (S.P.A.C.E.).

This multidimensional event is expected to bring visitors from far and wide to the area. Featured speaker for the weekend will be Mike Bara from the History Channel TV series "Ancient Aliens."

In addition to the featured speaker, there will be a number of panel discussions by local authors, researchers and alien experts. During the day, residents and visitors will be allowed an “open mic” to tell their stories about close encounters and strange events.

The event will run from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Friday will include free concerts and trips to Mayland Community College's Dark Sky Observatory.

For those that love to play the part there will be a “My Favorite Martian” costume contest for the young and young at heart, plus an exciting “E.T.” Children’s Bike Race. Included in the downtown area will be food vendors, comic and book authors and a spacious beer garden.

This is a free event to everyone interested in the unknown. For more information, visit spacenc.com.
