Mountain Laurels

The members of Mountain Laurels, Elaine Gray, Rhonda Lorence, Maggie Sparks and Connie Woolard, have been performing together since 2008.

Mountain Laurels will perform in the fifth of the 2019 Backstreet Concert Series at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19, at the Backstreet Park in West Jefferson.

Mountain Laurels have performed together since 2008. The members of Mountain Laurels come from a variety of backgrounds. Elaine Gray, a former pop rocker with a doctoral degree, plays guitar. Rhonda Lorence, a founding member of Mountain Laurels, was trained as a classical violinist, but finds fiddlin’ more fun. Maggie Sparks on the flute is a dermatologist in Boone. Connie Woolard, the other founding member of Mountain Laurels, has played the hammered dulcimer for more than 25 years and loves its fluid resonance.

This concert is individually sponsored by the Ashe County Arts Council. In the event of rain, the concert will move to the Ashe Arts Center at 303 West School Street, three blocks east of the outdoor concert site.
