The Bean Stalk Community Theatre in Watauga County is performing Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” from July 25 to 27. The production features multi-talented singers, dancers and actors from age 6 to 57, and many of the props are handmade by director Amy Beane. For this show, Beane made sausage headbands and many hats, one of which is a candlestick top hat.
This classic tale comes to the High Country with enthusiasm and excitement, but not without obstacles. From casting to the show’s opening, the production has had to replace six cast members for various reasons.
“Basically, with this show, we assigned understudies to every main character,” Beane said. “And thankfully other cast members are ready and willing to step into those roles.” Despite this, Beane tells her performers that “everything happens for a reason,” and there is still a show to go on.
There are limited chances to see the finished product. The show will begin at 7 p.m. on July 25-26 and at 2 p.m. on July 27. All performances will be in the Ross Auditorium in Watauga High School.
Tickets are $10 for students, $12 for seniors and $14 for adults. They can be purchased online at https://www.beanstalknc.com/tickets.
