BOONE — The Boone Board of Adjustment on April 4 voted to deny two requested variances for a proposed hotel at the corner of Hillside Drive and East King Street.

Dan Norman, CEO of North Star Villages LLC of Charlotte, requested variances from the Unified Development Ordinance’s setback and height standards for a proposed 45-foot-tall, four-story hotel.

Town attorney Allison Meade indicated that if approved for the variances, the project would then have gone before the Boone Town Council for conditional district rezoning consideration.

The hearing drew a number of attendees from the adjacent neighborhood, many who expressed opposition to the project.
