LENOIR – Watauga High School graduate and Zionville resident Dalton Courtney will be learning skills related to being a line technician from Blue Ridge Energy as he was among seven selected for an internship with the local utility.

Courtney will serve his internship in Watauga County.

“Blue Ridge Energy selects students from its district areas each year who display interest in work related to the cooperative and its operations,’ a statement from BRE spokesperson Renee Whitener said. “Interns spend the summer months working in various departments at the cooperative, learning its functions and developing professional skills that prepare them for their future career fields.”

Six others were selected for internships. Serving at BRE’s cooperative headquarters in Lenoir are Blake Herman, a senior at UNC-Charlotte from Lenoir; Caitlin Finley, a student at Caldwell Early College in Lenoir; Jacob Church from Collettsville; and Casey Turro, rising junior at Appalachian State University from Wake Forest.

John Reavis, from Fleetwood and attending Wilkes Community College, will intern at the Ashe District office in West Jefferson and Kody Blevins from Sparta will intern at the Alleghany District, located in Sparta.
