Community ministries, coordinated by the Three Forks Baptist Association, will be holding a series of events throughout the month of December in the Boone area called “Bethlehem and Beyond” to celebrate the Christmas season.
The series is headlined by Bethlehem Bonanza on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Boone Mall, where children can make Christmas ornaments and hear stories about the first Christmas.
Dozens of volunteers, churches of various denominations and local business sponsors are involved in the project.
The Bethlehem and Beyond event series also features a nativity art contest for children ages 5 through 18, floats in the Boone Christmas parade on Dec. 3, a live nativity scene across from the Wendy’s on Blowing Rock Road in Boone on Dec. 9 and Dec. 10 and caroling at the Boone Mall from Dec. 9 through Dec. 16.
The art contest is open to youth artists across several local counties, including Watauga, Ashe, Caldwell, Avery and Wilkes along with Johnson County, Tenn.
When submitting artwork, artists are required to submit original, finished and unframed pieces relating to the birth of Christ that are no larger than 16-by-20 inches and are suitable for hanging.
The artwork will be displayed at the Boone Mall from Monday, Dec. 5, until Monday, Dec. 19.
Awards will be given to three age groups: 4 to 9 years old, 10 to 13 years old and 14 to 18 years old.
“We hold several Christ-centered Christmas events for the entire community to participate in and enjoy,” said Jennifer Waldorf, office manager for the Three Forks Baptist Association.
