BLOWING ROCK — Casting Bread Food Pantry awarded $300 to the 13-year-old winner of its fourth annual Ducky Regatta fundraiser on June 1.

Contestants of the competition bet money on rubber ducks that raced down a stretch of the Middle Fork New River. Money raised from the event supports the mission of Casting Bread — a food pantry and soup kitchen sponsored by FaithBridge United Methodist Church.

Ashton Brumfield, a student at Hardin Park, was declared the winner when her No. 10 duck was first to reach the finish. Since Brumfield was not in attendance when she was declared the winner, her mother — Vaness Brumfield — accepted the cash prize on her behalf.

The event also included live music, inflatables and games for attendees to enjoy.
