BOONE — Appalachian State University’s Division of Academic Affairs recently announced Jacqueline “Jacqui” Z. Bergman, professor in Appalachian’s Department of Management, has accepted a permanent appointment as vice provost for faculty affairs. Her new position will become effective July 1.

Bergman has served as interim vice provost for faculty affairs since July 2018, leading policy development, implementation and assessment, particularly in relation to faculty matters.

“It’s been a genuine pleasure working with everyone in Academic Affairs and across the university this past year,” Bergman said. “I’m honored to be able to continue serving the faculty and the institution in this role.”

Of Bergman’s service to university faculty, Darrell Kruger, provost and executive vice chancellor, said, “Dr. Bergman has overseen faculty development programs that enhance teaching, research, creative and service activities, as well as help faculty to sustain rewarding personal lives while advancing their careers.”

Bergman has provided oversight and support for revision and interpretation of Appalachian’s Faculty Handbook; worked with the provost, faculty, departmental chairs and deans; provided clear understanding of promotion, tenure and reappointment and other faculty personnel policies; and served as Academic Affairs’ liaison on all personnel matters, working closely with the Office of Equity, Diversity and Compliance, and the Office of the General Counsel.

Additionally, she has worked closely with the university’s Faculty Senate and represented the provost on the Faculty Governance Committee.
