Position: $16.68 - $24.77 (salary range depending on qualification/experience) To perform 911 communications and varied clerical work receiving emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, dispatching appropriate response and updating status of public safety personnel. 
Essential Duties: Receives routine dispatch and emergency telephone calls and personal requests for assistance concerning crimes, fires, rescue and other needs or general information. Operates a variety of electronic equipment to maintain contact with police and fire personnel and other law enforcement units; monitors and coordinates police, fire and EMS activity and assignments; provides information about the situation as it develops and/or background information from the DCI and other computer systems; updates status and locations of public safety personnel. Records all requests for assistance in CAD systems and assigns case numbers as needed; enters warrant and subpoena information, trespass notices and animal registrations in computer. Ability to multi-task in emergency situations maintaining law enforcement protocols and procedures while demonstrating high level of mental stability and professionalism under pressure. Operates a computer terminal connected with the Division of Criminal Information (DCI) and the National Crime Information Center to obtain driver's history, vehicle registration data and criminal record information; maintains communications logs and reports including the nature of calls, actions taken and the times involved. 
Experience, Knowledge, Skills: Valid driver’s license recognized in the state of North Carolina. Must have or be able to be certified by the State of North Carolina as a DCI Operator; as a Telecommunicator by the North Carolina Sheriff’s Commission or the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission within timeframes specified by the Department. Obtain an Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification within timeframes specified by the Department. Must successfully complete the departments field training program. Must be available to work 12 hour shifts days and/or nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
