Georgia Elrod Wood, 95, of Clemmons, N.C., native and former resident of Watauga County, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 16, 2018, at Trinity Elms Health & Rehabilitation in Clemmons.
Her lifelong devotion to her family and many, many friends as well as her firm belief in God, supported her and ultimately gave her peace.
“Mrs. Georgia” was born October 14, 1922, in Watauga County, N.C., daughter of the late Edward and Josie Nelson Elrod. She was a retired secretary for Mountain Oil Company and a charter member of Deerfield United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha Wood Wilson (husband, Roy) of Mocksville; her two beloved grandsons, Paul Dale Wilson (wife, Pam) and Loyd Roger Wilson (wife, Dawn) and two cherished great granddaughters, Gabby and Alexa. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Dale S. Wood.
Services for her Celebration of Life was be held at Deerfield United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 until 2 p.m., at the church, prior to the service. Officiating was be the Rev. Wes Austin and the Rev. Sylvia C. Wilhelm. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock.
