BLOWING ROCK — A number of local businesses in Blowing Rock and Boone have celebrated opening their doors in recent weeks.

June 19 saw Village Thrift holds its ribbon cutting on opening day. Operated by the Blowing Rock Women’s Club at 8332 Valley Blvd., the store raises funds for scholarships for local children.

June 23 featured Boone’s Horton Hotel. In an vent co-hosted by the Boone Area and Blowing Rock Chambers of Commerce, Rep. Ray Russell (D-Boone) gave a proclamation for the hotel and its historical importance.

June 27 saw women’s clothing and accessory shop The Funky Tulip, which had opened in late February, gets its ribbon cutting. Located at 1128 Main St., Funky tulip is owned by Lisa Ireland of Tazmaraz.

The next day, June 28, saw Chef and Somm, located at 1132 Main St., Suite 102, in The Village Shoppes on Main Street shopping center, open up. The restaurant had opened in early April and is owned by Gary Brown, chef Sara Hord and Catherine Thomas.
