BLOWING ROCK — A potter from Knoxville, Tenn., took home the award of excellence from the July 13 edition of Blowing Rock’s Art in the Park.

Judy Brater has been teaching and creating embellished art pottery for 45 years, according to the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce’s Loni Miller, who helps organize the events.

The second-place award of distinction went to Avril Gordon, a contemporary cubist jewelry artist from Smyrna, Ga. The two honorable mention ribbons went to Heather Cohen, a silk fiber artist originally from Zimbabwe, now residing in Mocksville; and Mary Mason, a sculpture artist specializing in creating whimsical animal bells and sculptures from Hendersonville.

The July 13 Art in the Park marked the halfway point of the 2019 season, The remaining shows, which takes place on Park Avenue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., are on Aug. 10, Sept. 7 and Oct. 5.
