“By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.” Hebrew 11:27

Each Easter I look forward to watching one of my favorite movies, “The Ten Commandments.” It was a cinematic marvel in its day.

The special effects might look a little “cheesy” to us in this modern day of computer imaging. The mere thought of what actually took place as the Israelites crossed the Red Sea or the burning bush in which God appeared to Moses is a marvel.

When Moses was a baby his family realized Pharaoh’s plan. They took it upon themselves to protect Moses. His mother prayed for him. His sister watched him. Ultimately, his family guided him for as long as God allowed. Years later, Moses’ family reaped the rewards of their faithfulness.

Christian parents should desire to see their children grow up to be responsible adults but, most importantly, they should want their children to follow God’s leading. This desire should urge us on to pray, guide, and instill in our children’s hearts a desire to seek God.

In our scripture for today we are reminded that the faithfulness of Moses’ parents prepared Moses to forsake his princely life to become a faithful follower of God. Moses had faith in the invisible hand of God guiding his life. He gave up a life of power in Egypt to a life of hardship and struggles. Yet he continued on in his pursuit of God’s will. He led the people and was obedient to God, that He might use him for His purpose. Moses’ life was altered for God at a young age by his parents’ faithfulness.

We serve the same God that Moses served. So are we leading our families in God’s will? Are we leading in our community and church? Is God calling us to influence someone for Him? Our prayer should be to ask the Father to allow us to influence others for His will. We may be raising a child or ministering to someone who will do great things for God as Moses did! Think about it!
