Sewage spills into Kraut Creek in Boone

A sanitary sewer overflow caused an estimated 3,500 to 4,000 gallons of sewage to spill in Kraut Creek near Appalachian State University Sunday.

The spill occured near the intersection of Hardin and Rivers streets, and the town of Boone’s sewer operation department responded, remedying the situation in approximately one hour.

Jack Harmon, superintendent of sewer operations, said the overflow was caused by grease in the main sewer line.
