Mr. Joseph Holland Swaim Sr., 92, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center.

He was born March 2, 1912 in Forsyth County, to the late James Lawson and Mattie Newell Swaim.

Mr. Swaim was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving two tours of duty in the Pacific with the U.S. Navy Seabees.

He was employed by Goody’s Manufacturing Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1977 as a division sales manager.

He was also a member of the United Commercial Travelers for 50 years.

He volunteered his spare time in retirement between Crisis Control, Boy Scouts, Samaritan Ministries, and The Salvation Army. In addition, he was able to trace ten generations of the Swaim families genealogy.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ruth Litaker Swaim; a daughter, Priscilla Swaim Robinette and husband, Fred, of Boone; a son, Joe Swaim, Jr. and wife, Rhonda, of Winston-Salem; two granddaughters, Emily Robinette Harpe of Advance and Sally Ann Robinette of Winston-Salem; a brother, James Edwin Swaim of Kernersville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Swaim Pitts and Ethel Swaim Teague; a brother, Rev. John Curtis Swaim; a niece, Thelma Swaim West; and four nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Highland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Stephen McCutchan officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service in the church parlor. A private family burial will precede the memorial service.
