Mr. Howard Julus Smith, 78, of Clover Dr., SW, Lenoir, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 20, 1926, in Watauga County, to Ollie L. Smith and Bertha Pennell Smith Hamby.
Mr. Smith was a retired furniture worker. He was a member of South Lenoir Church of God and presently attended Bethlehem Church of God. While attending South Lenoir Church of God, he served as Sunday School Superintendent, and Sunday School teacher and choir member.
Survivors include his wife, Polly Simmons Smith; one son, Rev. Howard S. Smith and wife, Wanda, of Bethlehem, N.C.; one brother, Lloyd Smith of Sugar Grove, N.C.; two sisters, Lula Smith Eggers of Chilhowie, Va. and Betty Smith Leclaire and husband, Eddie, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandsons, Howard Smith Jr. and Darren Smith and wife, Tonya; four great-grandchildren, Kristi Smith Hollifield, Lauren Smith, Autumn Smith and Corey Smith.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd B. Smith and Henry W. Smith; and one sister, Lillie Mae Smith Poarch.
Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at South Lenoir Church of God with the Rev. Ernest Bowes, the Rev. Stoy Lankford and the Rev. Howard Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Pendry’s Funeral Home.
