Miss Janie Yvonne Ray, 50, of Circle Drive West, Vilas, died Friday morning, Dec. 31, 2004, at home.
She was born in Watauga County, April 6, 1954, the daughter of D.O. and Betty Jane Proffitt Ray.
Miss Ray devoted the whole of her life to music studies, and being a professional musician.
She taught at Lees-McRae College and spent most of her career as a private music teacher, teaching violin, piano and viola.
Miss Ray performed with many orchestras, including the Western Piedmont Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra.
She managed and performed with a professional string quartet at weddings, receptions, and other events for 32 years.
She was the founder and original owner of Bare Essentials Health Food Market.
Miss Ray was also an avid quilter, gardener and artist.
Survivors include one niece, Sarah Jane Ray of Kannapolis; Sarah’s mother, Millie Hildreth of Marshville; and Sarah’s sister, Kristie Long of Stanfield.
She is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends including Gwyn Winkler, Mary Ann Hayes, Lisa Day and Jennie Cole-Reed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, D.O. and Betty Jane Proffitt Ray.
Services were conducted Monday morning at 11 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gordon Rawls officiating.
Graveside services and burial will be private.
