Mr. Harold Baxter Hartley, 65, of 5177 Bamboo Road, Boone, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 28, 2004, at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 16, 1939, in Boone, Watauga County, to Claty Snow Baird Hartley and the late Burl Gordon Hartley. Mr. Hartley was a graduate of Appalachian High School and retired from Appalachian State University Food Services in 1996, after 31 years of service. He was a member of Laurel Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Claty Hartley of Boone; one brother, Danny Hartley and wife, Janice, of Deep Gap; and two sisters, Jean Moretz and husband, Allie, of Millers Creek and Mary Francis Adams and husband, Perry, of Vilas; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mazel Parleir, of Boone; and two brothers-in-law, James Parleir and wife, Dale, of Denver and Truett Parleir and wife, Mozel, of Wentworth. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Parleir Hartley; his father, Burl G. Hartley; one brother, Richard Hartley; one sister, Doris Parlier; and a brother-in-law, James Parlier.
Services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Laurel Springs Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 1-2 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Brent Bolick, the Rev. Gordon Rawls and the Rev. J.G. Early. Burial will follow in Laurel Springs Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening (Wednesday) from 6-8 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Service. At other times, friends may call at the homes of Mrs. Claty Hartley, 821 Brown’s Chapel Road, Boone and Mrs. Mazel Parleir, 5177 Bamboo Road, Boone.
