Dr. William C. “Bill” Strickland, 87, of Park View Circle, Blowing Rock, died Tuesday night, Dec. 21, 2004, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 6, 1917, in Bowling Green, Fla., a son of the late Hallie C. and Edmon Hopson Strickland.
Dr. Strickland received the A.B. Degree from Stetson University, and both a B.D. and Th.D. Degree from Southern Baptist Theological University of Louisville, Ky.
Dr. Strickland taught at Southeastern Theological Seminary at Wake Forest University from 1951 until 1966.
He was appointed professor and chairman of the department of philosophy and religion at Appalachian State University in 1966 and served in that department until his retirement.
Dr. Strickland was a member of the First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school classes for 28 years.
Dr. Strickland was an ordained Baptist Minister and wrote numerous books, articles, and Sunday school lessons about the Bible.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Strickland; one daughter, Claudia Strickland of Blowing Rock; one son, Jeff Strickland and wife, Kerstin, of Germany; and two granddaughters, Lea and Anna Strickland of Germany.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, at Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff Studio.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Watauga County Humane Society, 200 Casey Lane, Boone, N.C. 28607 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
