Carts & Courts Awaiting

Blowing Rock Community Day Tournament set for August 22

The golf carts and tennis courts of the Blowing Rock Country Club will be filled with people doing their part to help worthy organizations during the 20th Community Service Day Golf and Tennis Tournament, to be held on Saturday, August 22.

Fortunately for those latecomers, there are still slots to be filled in both tournaments and the Blowing Rock Community Foundation is doing its darnedest to make sure that everyone who wishes to participate has the opportunity to do so.

A spokesperson for the BRCF emphasized that the golf tournament is looking for set foursomes and for individuals and duos that will be paired with other golfers for the fun tournament. The tournament will offer prizes for overall winners and for the winners of a number of different categories.

In addition to the full day of golf and tennis fun, the event will feature a live auction, a silent auction, raffles, a magic show featuring Bill Spooner, food and drinks, and a musical salute to the 60s and 70s called Groovy Nights.

The event will raise needed funds for a variety of worthy organizations in Blowing Rock including
Proceeds from the event will also be used to provide scholarships for college students from the greater Blowing Rock community. Last year’s event helped pay for new scholarships for five high school seniors entering college.

The live auction will feature a number of fantastic offerings highlighted by a week’s stay at a condominium in Costa Rico.

The silent auction will feature handmade fine jewelry, bar and kitchen gourmet untensils, wine, and many gift certificates donated by local merchants.

The raffles will include items such as state-of-the-art golf clubs and a night at the Ragged Garden bed and breakfast.

The Blowing Rock Community Foundation, Inc. was established in 1985 to establish an endowment to benefit the Town of Blowing Rock and its citizens.

In 1989, the Blowing Rock Country Club elected to join this endeavor and began its Community Service Day Golf Tournament to help support the Blowing Rock Community Foundation.

Last year’s event helped raise over $100,000 for a number of worthy causes.
