Watauga sheriff’s reports

Aug. 3
Burglary with forced entry, larceny and criminal damage to property were reported on the 1100 block of Fire Tower Road in Boone. The victim reported a person damaged a door lock to gain entry to a building on the property and stole a portable television and a fire extinguisher.

An incident involving a person going armed to the terror of people and driving while license revoked was reported at a residence on the 200 block of Smith Street in Vilas. A person reportedly discharged a firearm and terrorized the people within.

Criminal damage to property was reported at a residence on the 200 block of Red Maple Lane in Boone. The victim reported a person threw a rock through a window in the home.

Aug. 4
Larceny from a building was reported at a residence on the 300 block of Frank Mast Road in Banner Elk. The victim reported a person entered the home and stole money, receipts and keys.

Aug. 5
Criminal damage to property was reported at a residence on the 1400 block of Pigeon Roost Road in Banner Elk. The victim reported a person cut down two trees on his/her property.

Fraud was reported at a residence on the 1200 block of Old U.S. 421 in Boone. The victim reported having been defrauded through a Craiglist advertisement.

Criminal damage to property was reported at a residence on the 2100 block of Junaluska Road in Boone. The victim reported a person let the air out of his/her vehicle tires.

Larceny of a trailer was reported at a residence on the 400 block of Joe Farthing Road in Sugar Grove.

Larceny was reported at a residence on the 900 block of Niley Cook Road in Blowing Rock. Blue Ridge Electric Membership reported a person had damaged an electric meter and reconnected service.


John Lawrence Washburn, 66, of 944 Laurel Branch Road, Vilas, was served with a warrant for arrest on charges of trespassing and communicating threats. He is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 15 in lieu of a written promise bond.


Gilbert Lee Bowman II, 48, of 116 Rolling Hills Ranch, Chambers, Ariz., was served with a warrant for arrest on charges of violating a domestic violence protective order, assault on a female and communicating threats. He is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 23.

Terri Lynn Harmon, 38, of 100267 U.S. 421 North, Zionville, was served with an order for arrest on a charge of communicating threats. She was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 23 in lieu of a secured $500 bond.

Aug. 6
Larceny was reported at Freedom Farm Ministeries on Cabbage Creek Road in Creston. A check was reported stolen and presented to a financial institution.

A simple physical assault with sexual motive was reported in an open land area between Boone and Blowing Rock. The victim reported a person sexually assaulted her while she was sleeping.


Officers were called to a residence on the 1800 block of Forest Grove Road in Vilas. The victim reported a person stole a motorcycle from the residence.

Larceny was reported at the U-Haul rental business on N.C. 105 Bypass. Cash and miscellaneous checks were reported stolen.

Assault on a female was reported at a residence on the 100 block of Patton Lane in Boone.

An incident of communicating threats was reported at a residence on the 100 block of Church Hollow Road in Boone. The victim reported receiving threatening messages via cell phone calls.

Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at Highland Landscaping on U.S. 321 in Blowing Rock. The front door was forced open and a cash drawer containing an undisclosed amount of money was stolen.

Richard Ray Roach, 56, of 1145 2nd St., Boone, was arrested on view on charge of assault on a female. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 9.

Frank Daniel Schooh, 41, of 336 Claudill Clyde Road, Wilkesboro, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of simple physical assault. He is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 4 in lieu of a written promise bond.
