Watauga sheriff’s reports

July 29
Officers responded to a domestic dispute and to assist medics at a residence on the 1300 block of Stoney Brook Lane in Boone. The victim reportedly got into an argument and ingested too much medication.

Fraud was reported at a residence on the 1300 block of Howard Edmisten Road in Sugar Grove. The victim reported receiving a counterfeit check via the United Parcel Service.

Larceny was reported at a residence on the 100 block of Old Glade Road in Deep Gap. Multiple power tools were reported stolen.

An incident of trespassing was reported at the High Country Home Builders Association on N.C. 105 Bypass.


Trespassing and criminal damage to property by vandalism were reported at a residence on the 100 block of Cold Springs Lane in Boone. The victim reported a person entering the property and camping without permission. The person also left behind trash.

Jeremiah Johnson Scott, 31, of 248 Green St., Blowing Rock, was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court date. He is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 29 in lieu of a written promise bond.

Bobby Randall Bowers, 30, of 168 Garden Terrace Lane, Millers Creek, was arrested on view on charges of operating a vehicle without insurance and a revoked registration plate. He was also served with an order of arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court date. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 29 in lieu of a secured $950 bond.

July 30
Burglary with forced entry, larceny and the possession/concealment of stolen property were reported at a residence on the 100 block of Henson Hollar Road in Vilas. The victim reported a person entered the home and stole jewelry.

Criminal damage to property by vandalism was reported at a residence on the 800 block of Chestnut Knob Road in Boone. The victim reported a person threw eggs at the home and vehicles.


Fraud was reported at a residence on the 2400 block of Russ Cornett Road in Boone. The victim reported receiving a fraudulent check in the mail.

Criminal damage to property by vandalism was reported at a residence on the 300 block of Ed Williams Road in Zionville. The victim reported finding a rock in his yard by hitting it with his lawn mower.

A simple physical assault was reported at a residence on the 2000 block of Presnell School Road in Banner Elk. The victim reported having been slapped.

Burglary with non-forced entry was reported at Watauga Wood Products on Ray Brown Road in Boone. A plasma cutter, air wrench, leaf blower, gas trimmer and a chainsaw were reported stolen from a building.

Jennifer Lynne Campbell, 37, of 1926 Fords Creek Road, Mountain City, Tenn., was served with a warrant for arrest as a fugitive from justice from another state. She was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 15 in lieu of a secured $15,000 bond.

David Frank Mast, 56, of 333 Frank Mast Road, Banner Elk, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of communicating threats. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 9.

Ricky Brewer, 51, of 4561 Wildcat Road, Deep Gap, was served with a warrant on a domestic violence protective order violation. He is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 21 in lieu of an unsecured $1,000 bond.

July 31
Burglary with forcible entry was reported was reported at a residence on the 200 block of Frank Mast Road in Banner Elk. The victim reported a person prying open a window, damaging the frame.

Officers were called to a residence on the 4000 block of N.C. 105 in Boone. The victim had cut him/herself with an unknown object.

Trespassing was reported at the Turtle Island Preserve in Deep Gap. The owner reported a person driving into the open land area.

Damage to property by vandalism was reported along the road on the 1200 block of Old Bristol Road in Boone. An unknown person struck a row of mailboxes.

Joel Lamon River, 40, of 1320 E. Scotch Cross, Greenwood, S.C., was arrested on view on a charge of driving while impaired. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 29 in lieu of a secured $500 bond.

Austen Wolf Renton, 18, of 1983 Topia Road, Piney Creek, was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court date. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 21 in lieu of a secured $500 bond.

Jason Eli Brown, 26, of 150 Summer Drive, Boone, was served with an order for arrest on a court violation. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on Aug. 18 in lieu of a $12,000 secured bond.

Aug. 1
Trespassing was reported in open land areas on the 1300 block of Forest Grove Road in Vilas. A person entered the property without permission.

Criminal damage to property by vandalism was reported at a residence on the 100 block of Scotts Drive in Boone. The victim reported a radiator that was sitting on the front porch was damaged.

Criminal damage to property and a hit and run were reported at the Powder Horn Mountain gate. A person struck the gate with a vehicle, damaging the control box.

Larceny was reported at a residence on the 100 block of Yonah Court. A license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle.

The theft of a motor vehicle was reported at a residence on the 2000 block of U.S. 421 in Boone. A green 1997 Subaru Outback was reported stolen.

Kelly Ann Doughton, 42, of 817 Alpine Drive, Seven Devils, was arrested on view on a charge of driving while impaired. She is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 29 in lieu of a written promise bond.

Aug. 2
Burglary with forced entry was reported at a residence on the 6900 block of Old U.S. 421 in Deep Gap. The victim reported a person kicked in an exterior door.

Burglary with forced entry was reported at a residence on the 100 block of Pinnacle Woods Drive in Boone.


The victim reported a person pried open the front door and stole a laptop computer, cash and three hats.

Larceny was reported at a residence on the 200 block of Hampton Trailer Circle. A skateboard was reported stolen.

Officers were called to a residence on the 300 block of Green Knob Mountain Road in Boone in response to a verbal disagreement between a father and daughter.

Anita Stewart, 47, of 104 Tamarack Road, Beech Mountain, was served with a warrant on a charge of second degree trespassing. She is scheduled to appear in district court on Sept. 15 in lieu of a written promise bond.

Renaldo Clyde Davis, 22, of 200 Triumph Lane, Apt. 202, Boone, was served with a criminal summons on a charge of failure to return rental property out of Wilkesboro. He is scheduled to appear in district court in Wilkesboro on Aug. 14.

Aug. 3
An assault was reported at a residence on the 300 block of Frank Mast Road in Valle Crucis. The victim reported having been grabbed by the arms and thrown to the ground.
