LeGree added to Buchanan watch
From staff reports
Appalachian State junior defensive back Mark LeGree has been added to the official watch list for the 2009 Buck Buchanan Award, The Sports Network announced on Tuesday. The Buchanan Award is presented annually to the nation's top NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS — formerly Division I-AA) defensive player.
LeGree, who placed third in voting for the 2008 Buchanan Award, led the nation with 10 interceptions a season ago. His 10 interceptions broke the 45-year-old school record of eight (Larry Harbin, 1963) and tied a SoCon record that hadn’t been matched in 33 seasons.
Additionally, he ranked second in the SoCon and 10th nationally with 17 passes defended and finished fifth on the squad with 58 tackles, including three for loss, a sack and a forced fumble as a sophomore.
Media Day special
On Aug. 8, GoASU TV will air its first ASU Media Day Special, which will be broadcast live from Kidd Brewer Stadium beginning at 10 a.m.
The two-hour streaming-video broadcast, hosted by the Appalachian ISP Sports Network crew of David Jackson, Steve Brown, Randy Jackson and Tim Sparks, will include interviews with ASU coaches, players and VIPs live from Appalachian’s annual media day at The Rock, as well as pre-recorded features that preview the 2009 Mountaineers.
Media day activities are closed to the general public, so the only way for fans to follow all of the action is through a premium subscription to GoASU TV. For details, visit GoASU.com.
Ticket holders discount
Beginning Wednesday, ASU football season-ticket holders will receive a 15-percent discount when purchasing a GoASU TV premium subscription.
In addition to live events, GoASU TV subscribers can also view premium content such as the aforementioned media day special, Appalachian Football Weekly and archived Mountaineer games on an on-demand basis. To subscribe, visit GoASU.com.
ASU-Furman televised
The final undetermined kickoff time on Appalachian's 2009 schedule was resolved this week when Furman announced that the Oct. 31 showdown will begin at noon and be televised live on WLOS-TV (ABC - Ch. 13) in Asheville.
Five of Appalachian’s 11 games are now slated for live television, with additional contests still being considered for local broadcasts.
Yosef’s new look
Yosef, Appalachian State's mascot, will sport a new look this fall.
The new look is not much different from the old look, but changes in the face will be the biggest difference. There are also changes in the mascot’s physique.
The last time Yosef went through a change was 2000, when the mascot was overhauled following a change in 1999 that was not popular with fans or administration.
