More than 100 people from various law enforcement agencies, elected officials and community members gathered to celebrate Post’s 11-year career with the BPD.
He was recognized with awards and gifts from the State Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Agency, Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Appalachian State University Police Department, Hickory Police Department and the Town of Boone.
Post will still be working come fall, as he begins teaching criminal justice courses at ASU.
“As you know, I stayed longer than was necessary for retirement. I was unsure if I would happy not working, but now I have Jaehee [his wife] in my life. She has been such a blessing and we are looking forward to traveling together,” Post said.
Capt. Curtis Main will serve as interim chief until the position is filled. Main will be retiring in October this year after serving more than 28 years with the BPD.
Town manager Greg Young said the town is continuing to review and narrow down the pool of applications for the chief position. The town received more than 100 resumes, but Young hopes to name a new chief in approximately one month.
