Youth soccer registration
Watauga County Parks and Recreation is currently accepting registration for youth soccer.


The youth soccer program is offered to children ages 5–15 (age determined as of Aug. 31, 2009). Six levels of play are offered based on age: U-6, U-8, U-10, U-12, U-15.

Whenever possible, teams are formed by geographical location (except for U-15). Separate boys’ and girls’ leagues are created when sufficient numbers exist in any age group. If numbers do not allow for separate leagues, the leagues will be co-ed.

Teams meet an average of three times per week, including two games each week.

All participants are required to wear shin guards and team-colored soccer socks. The recreation department will provide each child with a team jersey which is his/hers to keep at the end of the season.

Soccer cleats are not required but are highly recommended.

The registration fee is $33 per participant and must be submitted with the registration application.

All participants must be registered with Watauga County Parks and Recreation no later then 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14.

Youth football registration
Watauga County Parks and Recreation is currently accepting registration for Mite and Midget football.

The Mite Football program is full contact football for third- and fourth-grade students in Watauga County.


The MidgetFootball program is full contact football for fifth- and sixth-grade students in Watauga County.

Fundamentals and proper techniques are stressed to help ensure a safe playing environment.

The Parks and Recreation department provides pant pads, shoulder pads, helmet and game jersey to each player for the season.

Each participant must provide his/her own practice jersey, shoes, white football pants and mouthpiece.

The program runs for eight to 10 weeks. Teams meet an average of four times each week for games and/or practices. Games start as scrimmages at the beginning of the season and progress to full-contact regulation games.

Teams may play Wilkes and Ashe county teams, depending on registration numbers.

The registration fee is $65 per player. All participants must be registered with Watauga County Parks and Recreation by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9.

Volunteer soccer coaches needed
Watauga County Parks and Recreation is looking for volunteer youth soccer coaches.


The soccer program offers various leagues for youth ages 5-15 and runs from mid-August through early November.

Games are played Monday through Friday at 5:30 p.m. or after, and on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Teams typically meet three times per week.

Coaches must work well with youth and have knowledge of soccer. All volunteer coaches must undergo background checks and screening.

Anyone interested in serving as a volunteer soccer coach should contact Holly Gates at the Watauga County Parks and Recreation office at 264-9511.

Adult softball registration
Watauga County Parks and Recreation is currently accepting team registration for fall league adult softball.

The recreation department offers co-ed softball, women’s softball and four levels of men’s open softball during the fall season.

The entry fee is $350 per team, and all teams are guaranteed 11 games.

Games will be played Monday through Friday, with start times ranging from 6 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Play will begin the week of Aug. 10. Registration deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3.

Adult soccer team registration
Watauga County Parks and Recreation is currently accepting team registration for adult soccer.                             
Two leagues of adult soccer are offered.

Division A plays 11 V 11 on a 118 by 76-yard field and is geared toward competitive teams.


Division B plays 7 V 7 on a 76 by 48-yard field and is geared toward recreational teams.

The fall soccer program begins in early September and runs for eight to 10 weeks. Each team plays an average of two games per week.

Watauga County Parks and Recreation, along with the completed registration application, no later then 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31.
