Red, White and Blue Day
at farmers’ market
The folks at the Watauga County Farmers' Market will be celebrating Red, White and Blue Day this Saturday with the music of the Produce Pickers.
Summer crops at the market are starting to come in and this week's selection will also include a good mix of late spring crops, as well.
Josh and Amy Johnston will have mixed greens, snow peas and shelling peas, a variety of lettuce,s as well as the first of their crooknecks and zucchinis.
Jeff Thomas will have sugar snap peas, summer squash, chard, lettuce mix, beets, parsley and local pasture raised beef. Bill Moretz will have black raspberries, huckleberries, basil, lots of veggies and free range chicken.
Rachael Salmon will be introducing new local photographs, including some of rhododendrons, raccoons and wildflowers. Salmon also offers handmade moss frames, and she will be bringing her ginger lily plants this Saturday.
“Wednesday afternoon markets are a great option for those who can not come out on Saturdays,” a spokesperson for the market said. “We have been averaging almost 20 vendors on Wednesday with a great selection of produce, garden plants, foods and great hand crafts. There will be no sales allowed before 4 p.m. to give our vendors time to set up properly.”
The market is open Saturday mornings and on Wednesday afternoons from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Horn in the West in Boone. Turn next to First Citizens Bank on the N.C. 105 Extension and go to the top of the hill.
Call market manager Karen Bauman at 1-828-355-4918 for more information.
The market will be open rain or shine.
