Booze It and Loose
It campaign

The Watauga County Sheriff’s Office will be cracking down on intoxicated drivers over the holiday weekend as part of the “Booze it & Lose it: Operation Firecracker” campaign.
Deputies will be stepping up patrols and setting up checkpoints throughout the campaign, which runs from June 29 to July 5.
“Too many people still fail to understand that alcohol and driving don’t mix. Impaired driving is no accident, nor is it a victimless crime,” said Sheriff Len Hagaman. “It’s vitally important that we bring this tragic situation to an end.”
Captain Kelly Redmon offered tips for enjoying the holiday without jeopardizing their life and the lives of others. A designated driver should be chosen before the festivities begin and handed the keys. Anyone who is impaired is urged to call a sober friend, family member, taxi or use public transportation.
If a person suspects another motorist is impaired, Redmon urges that person to call the WCSO at (828) 264-3761 to report it.
