ASU assistant headed to L-R

HICKORY — Lisa Gottuso, an assistant coach with the Appalachian State women’s basketball team, has left ASU to take a similar post at Lenoir-Rhyne, the Division II school announced Monday.

Gottuso comes to Lenoir-Rhyne after serving as an assistant coach for Appalachian State for one season (2008-09). Prior to coaching at ASU, Gottuso was an assistant for her alma mater, California (Pa.), for two seasons (2006-07 and 2007-08) under current Mountaineer head coach Darcie Vincent.
Gottuso lettered four years with the Vulcans and was part of the 2003-04 NCAA Division II National Championship Team. One of the school’s best-ever guards, Gottuso became the 19th player in school history to cross the 1,000-point mark for her career and led California to three Pennsylvania State Athletic Championships and two regional titles.
Gottuso, a native of Ellwood City, Pa., finished her playing career ranked 15th in points (1,068) and seventh in assists (308) and steals (163) on California’s all-time lists.
