County budget is ‘cut to the absolute bone’
Watauga County now has its budget for the next fiscal year, with two weeks but no money to spare.
State House, Senate hammering out final spending plan
A state budget negotiation is underway as the General Assembly seeks to stem gaps between two different spending plans, though both contain major cuts for the next two years.

June 8 — An assault with a deadly weapon was reported at a residence on the 100 block of Hensel Lane in Boone. A person reported another had attempted to hit a child with a vehicle. A Spiderman bicycle was reported damaged in the incident.

Man airlifted in motorcycle wreck
A Tennessee man was airlifted after his motorcycle overturned on U.S. 421 Monday.
Additional town money pegged for U.S. 421 widening
The Boone Town Council will kick in additional funds for the widening of U.S. 421 set to begin later this year. The project, which includes widening from Hardin Street to N.C. 194, is expected to go out for bids this week and will modify the four-lane roadway to a six-lane divided highway.
Officers go on prescription patrol
Two local narcotics officers, one from Boone Police Department and one from Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, attended a training course hosted by the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office and Wilkes Community College last week.

June 11 — Larceny was reported at 8:48 p.m. at a garage on the 300 block of Madison Avenue. Four golf clubs were reported stolen.

ASU game with ECU to be televised
GREENVILLE — East Carolina athletics announced Monday that Appalachian State’s Sept. 5 football season opener at ECU will kick off at noon and be televised regionally on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN). MASN is available in a seven-state area that ranges from Pennsylvania to North Carolina and DirecTV (channel 640) and Dish Network (channel 432). Non-profits see dip in Boone town funding
Whether the town of Boone’s budget glass is half empty or half full will probably depend on who is asked. For several local agencies, the glass may seem half empty after town officials agreed to half the total amount of funds requested during budget hearings Tuesday and Wednesday.
