Freshman class could impact ASU

Long course for Blood, Sweat and Gears already sold out

If there are any cyclists who want to participate in the 11th annual Blood, Sweat and Gears bike ride, which is scheduled for June 27, theyfll have to settle for the short course.

Pioneer to play in soccer event
Watauga soccer player Ben Robertson will play in the East-West Senior soccer game at UNC Greensboro July 21.

Future varsity team plays in tournament
In the last couple of summer seasons, Watauga baseball coach Pete Hardee pretty much knew plenty about the players he was putting on the field. In 2009, it might take him a while just to recognize everybody.

Frustrating end to 2009
Appalachian State, despite being seeded sixth in the Southern Conference Tournament, had every intention of winning the event and going to the NCAA Tournament, which begins Friday.

Interim soccer coach would rather assist
Johnny Gailes had a chance to be the head coach of both Watauga soccer programs when he was named interim head coach at the start of the boysf season last fall. After his one year at the top, hefs decided to return to being an assistant coach.

Under-11s win tournament
The Watauga Storm 11 -under boysf basketball team finished first in the Silver Bracket at the Memorial Shootout at the Smokey Mountain Sports Complex in Elizabethton, Tenn. Overcoming a slow start in the pool games, the team came back and dominated championship play in the Silver Bracket winning their final game 54-29. Players are Caleb Bryson, Brody O'Neal, Tyler Cornett, Holden Russell, Dillon Carmichael, Morgan Mckay, Nikolaus Sherman. Not pictured are Caleb Zimmerman. Youthful Pioneers show signs of potential

Citadel dumps App State
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Appalachian State did not struggle with putting runners on base in the Southern Confefence Tournament. Driving them in was another matter.

ASU signs seven recruits
Appalachian Statefs wrestling program signed seven new wrestlers, including five that have won state championships.
