The Bistro broken into, again
By Melanie Marshall
The Bistro restaurant in New Market Centre was broken into for a second time in nine months in very similar crimes.

On Labor Day of last year, a maintenance worker for New Market Centre discovered the glass front door of the business had been shattered and called the Boone Police Department. The owners reported approximately 30 to 40 bottles of wine were stolen, in addition to 12 bottles of beer. Two trashcans were missing from behind the bar, which owner Pattie Newsome speculated had been used to carry out the alcoholic beverages. No cash was kept in the business at that time.
On Monday, Memorial Day, Boone Police officers on regular patrol at 3:30 a.m. discovered the door of the business had been shattered once again. Owner Glen Newsome said an estimated three cases of high-end wine, a trashcan and a small amount of cash were stolen. Newsome added that the chef had been called to determine if any other items from the kitchen area were missing. He was at the restaurant Monday morning replacing the front door.
In both incidents, the liquor was left untouched behind the bar area.
Newsome said there had not been an arrest in the first incident and the second remains under investigation.
The Boone Police officer in charge of the case was not available for comment as of press time.
