May 5
Leonard Dale Holman Jr., 27, of 270 Slabtown Road, Zionville, was served with an order for arrest on an indictment for felony charges of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering. He is scheduled to appear in superior court on May 28 in lieu of a previously set $50,000 bond.


John Daniel Cook III, 26, of 461 Castle Ford Road, Boone, was served with an order for arrest on 19 counts of misdemeanor failure to pay taxes. He is scheduled to appear in district court on June 9 in lieu of an unsecured $5,000 bond.

Ricky Dean Cook, 36, of 1762 Silverstone Road, Zionville, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of two court violations. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on June 2 in lieu of a secured $1,480 bond.

Larceny of an auto license plate and tampering with a motor vehicle were reported along the roadway on White Oak Road in Boone.

Breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny from a motor vehicle were reported at a residence on the 100 block of Betsy’s Drive in Boone. Several blank checks and two pocket knives were reported stolen.


Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at a residence on the 1700 block of Laurel Creek Road in Sugar Grove. The victim reported a person kicked in the door of the home and stole a television, a ceramic bear and a deer picture.

Fraud was reported by a resident of Homespun Hills in Boone. The victim reported a person received his/her identification information through false means.

May 6
Joshua Ray Blair, 20, of 117 Lower Street, Wilkesboro, was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear in district court on charges of speeding and driving while license revoked. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on June 5 in lieu of a secured $500 bond.


Fraud by identity theft was reported by a resident of Junaluska Road in Boone. The victim reported a person used his/her information to obtain a credit card.

Breaking and entering of a motor vehicle was reported at a residence on the 200 block Betsy’s Drive in Boone. The victim reported a person entered a vehicle parked at the home.


Breaking and entering and criminal damage to property were reported at a residence on the 2600 block of Rick Mountain Road in Zionville. The victim reported a person entered the home through and basement garage door and caused $300 in damage.

A wallet was reported lost by a resident of Old Mill Road in Sugar Grove. A wallet, containing identification, debit/credit cards and cash, was reportedly left on top a vehicle and lost when driving.

May 7
Stephen Joseph Latoche, 49, of 104 Helen Court, Boone, was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear at a scheduled court date. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on June 23 in lieu of a secure $1,000 bond.


Dennis Lee Bender, 62, of 1524 George Hayes Road, Boone, was served with a criminal summons on a charge of communicating threats. He is scheduled to appear in district court on June 5.

Larceny was reported at a residence on the 400 block of Deck Hill Road in Boone. The victim reported a purse, visor organizer, cash and a credit/debit card were stolen from a vehicle.


Burglary with forced entry was reported at a residence on the 100 block of Yarrow Lane in Boone. Access was gained to the home by bending a screen.

Larceny was reported at a residence on the 1500 block of George Hayes Road in Boone. The victim reported two loan contracts and two gold rings were stolen.

May 8
William Arthur Greene, 22, of 200 Hillside Drive, Mountain City, Tenn., was served with an order for arrest on a court violation. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on June 2 in lieu of a secured $5,000 bond.

Ricky Dean Cook, 36, of 1762 Silverstone Road, Zionville, was served with a warrant on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He is scheduled to appear in district court on July 23 in lieu of a written promise bond.

Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at an outbuilding on the 100 block of Virgil Day Road in Boone. The victim reported a person entered a building with the use of force and stole an unknown amount of copper pipe, 216 base board heaters and a utility trailer with a ramp.

Breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny from a motor vehicle were reported at a residence on the 100 block of Pinnacle Woods Drive in Boone. The victim reported a person entered the vehicle with the use of force and stole a video game console, video game, a Blu-Ray disc and a DVD.

Criminal damage to property was reported at a residence on the 100 block of Creek Lane. The victim reported a rock was thrown through a garage window.

Larceny was reported at a residence on the 2500 block of U.S. 321 in Boone. The victim reported prescription medication stolen.

May 9
Charles Kevin Baird, 41, of 121 Charlie Dancy Road, Zionville, was served with a warrant on a charge of communicating threats. He is scheduled to appear in district court on June 9 in lieu of an unsecured $500 bond.


Scott Edward Carlberg, 46, of 548 Marion Thomas Road, Zionville, was served with a warrant for arrest on five misdemeanor charges of failure to pay taxes. He is scheduled to appear in district court on June 12 in lieu of an unsecured $4,000 bond.

Larry Frank Winkler Jr., 44, of 130 Larry Winkler Road, Boone, was served with a warrant for arrest on a charge of fraud as defined by obtaining money/property by false pretenses or failure to work after being paid. He is scheduled to appear in district court on June 9 in lieu of an unsecured $500 bond.

Elizabeth Emerson Plunkett, 28, of 2472 Winklers Creek Road, Boone, was served with an order for arrest on a court violation. She is scheduled to appear in district court on June 1 in lieu of a secured $500 bond.


An incident of communicating threats was reported by a resident of Winklers Creek Road in Boone. The victim reported his/her landlord made threats concerning the victim’s property.

Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at a residence on the 300 block of Hicks Road in Sugar Grove. The victim reported a person entered the home through the front door and stole jewelry, two watches, a portable CD player and two handkerchiefs.

An assault with a deadly weapon was reported at a residence on the 1800 block of Summit Woods Drive in Blowing Rock. The victim reported a person cut his/her forearm with a fillet knife. According to the incident report, the lacerations were severe and drugs or alcohol were involved.

May 10
Breaking and entering and larceny were reported at a retail establishment located at 13444 U.S. 421 North in Zionville. The victim reported a person forced open the door and took $500 in cash. The name of the business was not specified on the report.

Criminal damage to property by vandalism was reported in a parking area on Howard’s Knob Road in Boone. The victim reported a person drove into a gate.

The unauthorized use of a vehicle was reported at a residence on the 100 block of Goshen Creek Ridge in Boone. The victim reported a person took a 2000 Dodge Grand Voyager without permission.

Ethan Jedidiah Morris, 16, of 140 Goshen Creek Ridge, Boone, was arrested on view on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and two traffic violations. He was placed in the Watauga County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in district court on June 12.

Larceny was reported at the swim complex property in Boone. The victim reported a cell phone was stolen while he/she was at the property.

Criminal damage to property by vandalism was reported at a residence on the 500 block of Deck Hill Road in Boone. The victims reported two vehicles were struck by eggs.
