WHS wins in first round
BLOWING ROCK - Watauga's boys' tennis team got off to a good start in the dual state 4-A playoffs with a 5-1 victory over Northwest Guilford in a match played at Yonahlossee Racquet Club because of rain that had fallen at the Carroll Complex at Watauga High.

ASU duo enters Hall
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - In the long history of the Southern Conference, there has never been an evening like Monday night as the league inducted its inaugural Hall of Fame class in front of a crowd of over 250 at the Chapman Cultural Center.
Ninth-ranked Pioneers eye NWC tourney
Wataugafs baseball team will have to settle for its 4-3 win over North Davidson Saturday to be its final tune-up for the Northwestern 4-A Conference Tournament, which was supposed to begin Tuesday.
Sports update: WHS event changes
Because of rain that has fallen and is expected to fall Tuesday afternoon, Watauga’s first-round state 4-A tennis match against Northwest Guilford was moved to the Yonahlossee Resort Club in Boone. The match will start at 4 p.m. The Watauga’s girls’ soccer game with South Caldwell was moved to the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex. The jayvees begin at 5 p.m. and the varsity play at 6;30 p.m. Watauga’s softball game with South Caldwell was moved to Wednesday, and Watauga’s baseball game against T.C. Roberson was canceled.

App State sending pair to Hall
The Southern Conference will induct its first Hall of Fame Class Monday in Spartanburg, S.C. Included in that class are former Appalachian State standouts Melissa Morrison-Howard and Valorie Whiteside.
Pack rolls by ASU
RALEIGH - Lindsay Campana allowed just five Appalachian State hits to lead N.C. State to a 6-1 win over the Mountaineers Sunday afternoon.
Pioneers rally past Avery
NEWLAND - It took Avery County just two minutes and 15 seconds to score a goal on Watauga. The Vikings would not score again the the final 77:45 of the game.
ASU bashes N.C. Central 17-0
Appalachian Statefs baseball team struck quickly and often at North Carolina Central and cruised to a 17-0 victory over the Eagles at Smith Stadium Wednesday. The Mountaineers (28-17), who have won nine straight, scored at least two runs in the first five innings of the game against an N.C. Central team that brought just 14 players to Boone because their teammates were taking exams.

FAYETTEVILLE - Five Watauga County residents competed, four who won first place, in the North Carolina Racquetball Association State Singles Championship Tournament on March 27-30.
Buzz Peterson to hold press conference
Newly hired Appalachian State menfs basketball coach Buzz Peterson will hold a press conference May 11 at the Broyhill Inn beginning at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend the event. Peterson was hired to take over the team April 27 for Houston Fancher, who was released from the position.
