ASU to host Upstate

Appalachian State’s softball team will play USC Upstate for the first time and will play a single game at Tennessee in mid-week action this week.
The Mountaineers played a rare six Southern Conference games last week, going 5-1 against Western Carolina and Furman. The Mountaineers finished off their SoCon regular season with a three-game sweep over Furman to improve to 14-9 in conference play. ASU pitchers Kayla Richardson, Ashley Stubbs and Teri Fister combined to allow just four runs (three earned) in the three games.
Appalachian goes into Tuesday with a 22-23 overall record and a school-record 14 Southern Conference wins. The Mountaineers’ 10 wins at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium is also an team record.
Katie Boyd leads Appalachian State with a .372 batting average and is second nationally in walks per game.
Her 53 walks puts her just seven from the SoCon single-season record record of 59 set by Chattanooga’s Leslie Barron in 2004.
